Prayers for Virginia Tech

It is amazing how much Monday-morning quarterbacking is going on from the media, those in chatrooms and even around the watercoolers. Blame the college, blame the police, blame the gun-laws…

Forgotten, or mentioned as an afterthought, are the victims and their families, the friends and colleagues and the community. All the retrospecting will not bring them back, and will not undo this sad and tragic deed. Yes, we must do all we can to prevent something similar in future.

For now, please offer your prayers for those directly affected by this tragedy, the wounded and their caregivers, the families and friends.

2Co 1:2  Grace to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.
2Co 1:3  Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,
2Co 1:4  who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
2Co 1:5  For as we share abundantly in Christ’s sufferings, so through Christ we share abundantly in comfort too.

  1. Very sad indeed, and right in my backyard.

Of course, with all of this still fresh, people will be emotionally charged and looking for someone to put the blame on. Human nature. But we won’t get anywhere by playing the blame game. Seems like everyone is being blamed but the shooter, who is instead being psychoanalyzed. Could it be that he was just evil, or can we say that anymore?

The reality is that this could happen in any school, at any time, especially a college. Being as this was a place that I have often visited, it is a sobering reminder that “…in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there were none of them.” (Psalms 139:16).

  2. This reminds me of the shooting that happened down in L.A. a number of years ago where two robbers went shooting up the town and people with armor pearsing bullets.. After the police shot back and wounded one of the gunman, the policeman were charged with the death of the gunman because the ambulance couldn’t get to them on time with all the road blocks.. Poor gunman…
