Osteen credits wife, staff, church for his success

The Christian Post and the Church Report reports that Joel Osteen is the most influential Christian in America. (I don’t know how exactly they arrived at that conclusion) You can read the articles here and here.

The same quote appears in both articles:
“”Always humble, Pastor Osteen gives credit to his wife, his staff and his church family for his success and the many blessings of Lakewood Church,” the Church Report stated. “Pastor Osteen has a gift for reaching unreached people with his message of positive thought and God’s plan for our lives.””

Now, to be fair, let me first qualify me comments by saying that I don’t know if that is the complete quote from Osteen on the matter. If it is, it is scary, sad and exasperating. The supposed most influential Christian in the country does not give all credit for his success to God? What does that tell a non-believer who reads that article?

  1. What is really scary, sad and exasperating (if it’s true) is that He is the most influencial Christian in America.

  2. For me it is exasperating because I cannot imgaine that he is intentionally distorting the word of God. What is the underlying worldview that leads modern church leaders to act like this?
